Young Fringers
We're excited to be offering our first events made specifically for kids and families this Spring!

Suncoast Remake Learning Days
We're participating in The Patterson Foundation's Suncoast Remake Learning Days with our Build-A-Play Workshop. A hands-on creative experience designed for children and their families. Families will work together to imagine and create their own original play through guided storytelling. We will explore design elements such as costumes, lighting, scenery, and more to bring their ideas to life. The workshop encourages creativity, cooperation, and self-expression in a nurturing, age-appropriate environment, and concludes with a short performance that celebrates participant’s imagination and effort. The event on April 25th is geared towards families with children aged Pre-K to 7 and the event on April 26th is for families with children aged 8 to 14. Both events will be held at 2 PM at The Player's Studio in Sarasota.
This year, after the success of our original Squeaky Wheel Fringe, we have decided to offer a weekend-long festival aimed specifically at youth and families. The dates for Kids Fringe are still TBD but we can't wait to share them once finalized!
While our main fringe does sometimes have family friendly shows we wanted to make sure our youngest fringers had an opportunity to experience performance art without boundaries made just for (and sometimes by) them. We want area youth to get opportunities to not only see classic performing arts, but to see and appreciate that the field of performing arts is as broad as their imagination. Not every play is Shakespeare, but everyone's creativity is valid and is deserving of an outlet.

Like our main Fringe, the artists will receive 100% of their base ticket price, access to full lighting and sound, and will have a professional photographer document their show. For this festival we will be opening up our applications for not only shows aimed towards youth and families, but to shows for young people by young people. For year one we are hoping to offer performances to at least four groups from a variety of genres with a total of eight to ten performances.

Applications are now open for artists to apply to be a part of Squeaky Wheel Kids Fringe! All shows should be aimed towards children and families in subject matter. Applicants must be 18 or older, and in a show that is performed by young persons an adult must sponsor the show (take responsibility for the show, supervise the cast, and sign all paperwork).
